Karston is a fifth generation Montanan. A former Peace Corps Volunteer and an Army veteran, Karston is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles and New York University School of Law. During law school, he interned with the US Attorney's Office, District of Montana, the Kings County District Attorney's Office in Brooklyn, New York and the Veteran Advocacy Project. After law school, Karston practiced law in the Bitterroot Valley before joining the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps in 2018. As an Army officer, he served as a military prosecutor and legal advisor to logistical and military intelligence units in Germany, Poland and Texas.
Following Army service, Karston and his family returned to Montana. Outside of the office, Karston enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children.
