ROSS D. TILLMAN is a litigation attorney whose primary areas
of practice include insurance coverage and defense, insurance
bad faith, communications and media law and general civil
litigation defense. While Ross has developed a particular focus
in insurance coverage law, his practice covers a wide range of
civil litigation matters in state and federal courts at both the
trial and appellate levels. Ross has litigated construction
defect claims, defamation and invasion of privacy cases and
copyright infringement matters for both plaintiffs and
defendants. Ross is a member of the State Bars of Montana and
California and is admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and state and federal district
courts in Montana and California. He holds a “BV” rating in the
Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
Ross was raised in Clifton, New Jersey. He attended Lehigh
University, where he received a B.S. in Business and Economics.
After working in New York and Los Angeles for two Fortune 500
companies, he attended the University of San Francisco School of
Law and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1987. Ross worked
for several prominent law firms in San Francisco from 1987
through 1997 and co-authored an article for the Hastings College
of Law Communications and Entertainment Law Journal entitled
“Reducing the Cost of Free Expression.” For several years, Ross
donated time to update the Libel Defense Resource Center’s Ninth
Circuit Survey of Libel and Privacy Law.
Ross moved to Missoula in 1997 and joined Boone Karlberg in
1998. He currently serves as pro bono legal advisor to the
International Wildlife Film Festival and Media Center. Ross and
his family donate time as volunteers for the Missoula Humane
Society. Ross and his wife, Marta, also are licensed foster care
providers in Montana. Ross, Marta and their children, Rachel and
Matthew, enjoy camping, mountain biking, skiing and tennis. The
family takes great pleasure in the numerous recreational
activities available in Montana.
