CYNTHIA K. THIEL has a legal practice focused principally in
the area of family law. Cindy is well respected for conducting
settlement conferences in family law matters and has completed
the family mediation core training at the Northwest Institute
for Dispute Resolution in Moscow, Idaho. Cindy holds a “BV”
rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
Cindy received her undergraduate degree from the University of
Montana in Missoula, graduating with high honors in 1990. Cindy
also attended the University of Montana School of Law,
graduating with high honors in 1994. While in law school, Cindy
served as an editor of the Montana Law Review and competed in
the Regional and National Client Counseling competitions,
placing fifth in the nation. Upon graduation, Cindy began
working as an associate for the law firm of Boone, Karlberg &
Haddon and became a shareholder of the firm of Boone Karlberg
P.C. in 2001.
Cindy is admitted to practice before the district courts of
the state of Montana, the United States District Court for the
District of Montana and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit. Cindy is a member of the Western Montana Bar
Association, State Bar of Montana and American Bar Association.
Cindy served as a director and officer of the Western Montana
Bar Association for over eight years, holding the office of
president from 2001-02. In 2006, Cindy was appointed to serve on
the University of Montana School of Law's Board of Visitors,
which provides advice to the Dean on various School of Law
matters.
In addition to her legal practice, Cindy serves on the
Advisory Board of the St. Patrick Hospital and Health Sciences
Center and, for 13 years, Cindy has been a volunteer at the
Family Law Advice Clinic of the Montana Legal Services
Association, which provides legal advice to pro se litigants who
are pursuing family law matters through the district courts.
From 2000 to 2008, Cindy served as an officer and board member
of Families First, a Montana non-profit corporation committed to
strengthening families by providing child-rearing information,
guidance and support to parents of all backgrounds and life
circumstances.
Cindy was raised in the central Montana community of Lewistown
and graduated from high school in Helena, Montana. Cindy enjoys
quilting, traveling, hiking and gardening. Her husband, Matthew
B. Thiel, is an attorney as well.
