ROBERT J. SULLIVAN has practiced law in Missoula for more
than 27 years. Prior to entering private practice, Bob worked
for approximately four years as a county prosecutor with the
Missoula County Attorney’s Office. During this time, Bob gained
extensive courtroom and trial experience with over 20 felony
jury trials involving offenses ranging from thefts, burglaries
and robberies to assaults and homicides. Bob entered private
practice and joined Boone Karlberg in January 1985.
Since entering private practice, Bob has prepared, tried and
participated in numerous civil trials before several state
judicial district courts across Montana and in all divisions of
the U.S. district courts in Montana. His civil litigation experience
includes employment, FELA, product liability, personal injury,
property damage, construction, business and commercial cases. He
has handled appeals before the Montana Supreme Court and the
U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In addition to his
trial practice, Bob’s practice includes representing individuals
and businesses in real estate, banking, construction,
employment, petroleum storage and sales issues and commercial
transactions.
Bob was born in 1954 and raised in Butte, Montana, but has
resided in Missoula since 1973. He graduated with a Bachelor of
Arts degree (with honors) from the University of Montana in 1976
and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Montana School
of Law in 1980. Bob has an “AV” rating in the
Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. Bob has been selected
and listed in the Chambers USA, America's Leading Lawyers for
Business and the Best Lawyers in America publications.
Bob was admitted to the Montana and U.S. District Courts,
District of Montana, in 1980 and to the U.S. Court of Appeals
for the Ninth Circuit in 1985. Bob attended the National
Institute for Trial Advocacy in 1985. He served as Treasurer
(1989), Vice-President (1990) and President (1991) of the
Western Montana Bar Association. Bob is active in the State Bar
of Montana serving as Trustee (1992-2002), Chair of the Board
(2001-02), President-Elect (2002-03) and President (2003-04).
Bob has also been a member of the Montana Supreme Court's
Commission on Character and Fitness since 1991.
Bob and his wife, Mary, have two sons, Brian and Patrick. The
family enjoys biking on the roads and mountain trails of
Montana, skiing and other recreational and sporting activities.
