SCOTT M. STEARNS joined the Montana bar and started
practicing in 1998. During his civil practice, he has worked on
litigation matters including financial institution litigation,
security broker-dealers arbitrations, real estate disputes,
railroad litigation, personal injury, commercial transactions,
matters involving unfair trade practices, contract, franchise
and insurance law.
Scott has represented and worked with public and private
companies, banks, insurance companies, railroads,
broker-dealers and individuals. Scott has trial experience in Montana state
courts, as well as in arbitration forums.
Scott was born in Missoula. He graduated from the University
of Notre Dame (B.A., 1995) and University of Montana (M.S.,
J.D., 1998). He worked in the Missoula County Attorney’s Office
for more than two years and served as a Deputy County Attorney
and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, District of
Montana. Scott then worked with Dorsey & Whitney LLP in
Minneapolis for more than two years, where he practiced in the
trial department.
In January 2003, Scott and his family moved back to Missoula,
where he joined Boone Karlberg. He is a member of the American
Bar Association, State Bar of Montana and State Bar of Minnesota
and has participated in numerous Western Montana Bar Association
activities.
Scott serves as Vice President of the United Way of Missoula
County. Scott also serves as an Acting Justice of the
Peace for Missoula County, is on the State Bar of Montana’s Fee
Arbitration Committee and teaches a course
in ethics and justice at the ROTC program at the University of Montana.
Scott served as an infantry officer in the Montana National
Guard.
Scott enjoys traveling, skiing, floating and golfing
with his wife, Julee, and their children, Elise, Renn and Lily.
